Drama on Campus Drive

Picture
Time:               Approx 8:30 pm

Occasion:          Mountaineer Weekend

Location:           34-36 Campus Drive

Cast:               one brother with an overriding interest in old firearms (and a Civil War musket)

One housemother with an English background

                        Two pledges

                        One University MD

Props:              (Other than the rifle)

                        Powder from several shotgun shells

                        One pint of Virginia Gentleman

Setting:          A bedroom – 3rd floor, back side, right hand room at top of the stairs

Take the brother, add some bourbon.  Take the shotgun powder and tamp it gently into the musket, To celebrate the weekend, put the musket out the window and pull trigger. (Hint – the black powder doesn’t have the “kick” of current ammo)  Result = the breech of the musket unrolls over the holding hand – not into – of the celebrant.  Powder burns, left arm, few on face.  One loud bang heard by Housemother, pledges, & the doc several blocks away.  Housemother arrives – quickly with soap, water, tea (for compress) and bandages.  Followed by pledges who escort the injury to the doc - who (upon hearing the blast) had decided to wait a while at the dispensary.

Ending:          Tea, sympathy, and the scars + a great bang. (The gun was no longer of any value except as a trophy.)

(WVU lost the game on Saturday.)"
