Gambler

There was in this era, a Treasurer (elected – possibly because no one else would take the job & room & board were paid) who was a gambler by nature. In his room – top 0f stairs, back side – were held many a poker game, usually attended by a very elite few plus an occasional (non-member) cronie. In so far as anyone knew, the games were clean, but, on occasion & late in the evening, the focus of some was blurred a bit by PA beer. (or sharper libation) All of this is of import only because – on occasion – said treasurer was known to trust his intuition & skill and offer the “table” to some “junior” members in lieu of payment of dues&/or the cost of in-house residence (room & board) on a double or nothing basis. Loss of one month (carried on the cuff) might well be regained - plus – at the table (same) the following Friday or the next month. A good time was had by most. - Anon
